Why Induction Heating Is Used for Continuous Casting Billet Temperature Compensation

In continuous casting and rolling production, billet temperature before entering the rolling mill has a direct impact on rolling stability and final product quality. If the billet temperature is too low or the temperature difference is too large, rolling load may increase and production rhythm may become unstable.

Induction heating is suitable for online billet temperature compensation. Yuantuo induction heating systems for billet reheating can be configured for 120-160 mm square billets with lengths from 3000-12000 mm. The hourly output can be designed according to the production line requirements, commonly within the range of 40-300 tons. The system can also be customized for slab or larger billet applications.

During production, infrared temperature measurement detects the billet temperature before entering the induction furnace. The control system automatically adjusts power according to the initial billet temperature and feeding speed, helping keep the outlet temperature stable before the billet enters the rolling mill.

The billet conveying system usually adopts multi-axis drive and works together with the customer’s existing transmission system to achieve synchronized movement. The guide rollers are made of 304 non-magnetic stainless steel and designed with suitable flexibility to adapt to allowable billet bending.

Before selecting a billet reheating system, steel plants and rolling mills are advised to provide billet section size, length, inlet temperature range, target outlet temperature, hourly output, rolling mill rhythm and workshop layout. Yuantuo can design a suitable induction billet temperature compensation solution according to the continuous casting and rolling process.
